I have a split in theexpansion tank, can I drain the tank and turn off the feed and still run my heating etc until I can get a plumber?

No

The clue is in the title - feed and expansion tank

Hopefully you have a working immersion heater if so drain the heating system and use the immersion for the hot water until you get a plumber

Thanks, that's what I thought but thought I'd better check as you get different
answers from different people.

Actually if you just bale the tank out and leave it connected, yes you can.

Yes you can. What is required is a cushion of air. Diaphragm is there to isolate water from air otherwise air would be taken up by water over time to leave zero air bubble. In an emergency, I would and I have, pumped up the vessel to fit a replacement first opportunity there after

Danny, I think they are trying to describe an open F&E tank!
