Exposing Steel beam

I think you could achieve a very similar look if you boxed in with plasterboard but followed the profile of the beam and painted it with a gloss paint.

Well just to pay devils advocate but theoretically you would need some fire test certification from the board manufacturer to say that cladding a beam in such a way would achieve the necessary fire protection. I'm not aware that any such tests have been carried out. Nowadays BC are getting really hot on only accepting products to be used as they they have been tested.

Sorry, slightly off-topic, but you've given me flashbacks to my childhood!
This is what can happen if you don't adequately protect your beams from fire! :eek:

This was a massive blaze at a car showroom. Walking past the aftermath of this with cars literally melted around drooped beams was truly a memorable sight to behold!

 
Thanks RandomGrinch, however fireboard isn't going to stop that from happening, my understanding is it gives resistance to the fire but eventually will penetrate.
