I understand the logic here is that if the ground level is less than 6" below the DPC, rain water will bounce off of the ground and soak your walls from below.

To assist your rain from not doing its best tigger impression, use pea gravel filled drainage or soak away strips between the driveway / paths and your walls. Easy to maintain too.

Could you elaborate please on the pea gravel soak aways.
I have a concrete apron on the exterior of them building that is above the DPC. I was anticipating digging it out and relaying below the DPC level. Put the concrete apron back on and with a slope the rain water should runaway.
Would a pea gravel soakaway be better? if so, why?
