I have bought a hardwood door being delivered next week

i am in a muddle about finishing the door(damn the internet )

Which should i use

1: Sikkens CETOL HLS 1 coat followed by 2 coats Sikkens Cetol Filter 7

2: SADOLIN CLASSIC 1 coat followed by 2 coats Sadolin Extra Woodstain

3: SADOLIN ultra either 1 coat basecoat followed by 2 coats ultra topcat
or 3 coats topcoat only

4: Ronseal 5 yr woodstain

I want the door colour to be mahogany if it makes a difference to which product to go with

Also should i stain a couple of times before the door is hung then finish with the last coat once it is hung

Thanks for any information

I personally would go with the Sikkens any day. Great stuff. Ive always used the THB and its been fantastic.

Thanks Robbie

Should i use the HLS first then 2 coats of the THB or Filter 7
Or is it ok to just use 3 coats of the top coat

Is it necessary to use the HLS first?

Like i said got bamboozled with the different products after reading up on the internet

Is there much differance between sadolin and sikkens

I can get the sadolin from b and q
whereas the sikken will have to be from a decorators centre

The good thing with sikkens is that the base coat does not have to be used underneath the top coats. If you do use it, it can give the top coat a different shade, so in effect you get twice as many colour combinations. The base coat however is great as it soaks into all the joints and end grain of the timber and will help preserve the door.
