I have a large house to repaint externally - the walls are sound but uneven and are rendered- so many imperfections. I am considering using a srayer and product such as Sandtex High Build- is this viable for competent DIYers?

No..forget it mate
You will need a high pressure spray system in order to pump high build out..they are not for the untrained
Also spraying utside is risky becasue the ind can cause paint overspray to travel a good hundred odd yards...normally only someones car!
