Should we varnish the external mahogany cladding on our house, or just apply a wood preservative. How often should we treat the wood. Please resolve this "dispute" between my husband and I.

Personally I don't like varnish on exterior wood. I find it doesn't wear well. You could use wood preserver or you could try something like this http://www.sikkens.co.uk/index2.html which, although a tad on the expensive side (about £18 for a litre) lasts for ages and gives an excellent finish.

There's no right answer to this one (I'm not getting involved with taking sides here!! ) - it really depends what sort of finish you want on your wood.

Mahogany is very nice when treated properly. (Hope it's from sustainable forest etc, etc).

Happy treating.
