External Render of house

I have had a garage converted into a room and the rendering around the new exterior door does not seem to have dried properly and i now have damp inside and leakage when raining (John Wayne has long since departed!!!) I have never done anything like this before, but feel even I can do a better job than the last cowboy- I have been advised to hack the rendering off and start again.

Please help, is this an easy job ?? Any info would be much appreciated - the little lady has done a Tyson job on my ear !!!

Sorry but, imho, render is a very poor choice when it comes to keeping moisture out of the habbitable space. You'd be far better off using other methods of separating the outer wall from your inside. This would usually involve putting another skin up inside the outer wall, separated from the outer skin (by means of a cavity or DPM).

I don't have any experience of using render as a weather proof layer, as it's not a technique I'd be happy using.

virtually every house built in Ireland is rendered and nope they dont leak. Done correctly it has to be even better than the porous brick if it has waterproofed additives and is weathershield painted.
