What's behind these tiles? Why did builders use them (cost & speed?) and what problems, if any, are associated with them? About 35 years old, what could I get them replaced with? Don't say wibbly pvc please, is there any solid (or solid looking) replacement for this stuff. Will I have issues with lintel if the replacement is significantly heavier? What's this section of wall likely to be like in thermal insulation terms, and is there a warmer replacement?
