Extra MCB/ Consumer Board???

Hi, Please tell me Im not being over conscious.....
I have a normal 3.5mm lead running into my garage which I believe comes from the ring main. I wish to add additional sockets and seperate my garage door motor... Could I just install a 2 way consumer unit with 2 6A MCBs for safety?

3.5mm?? not a size of cable I am aware of used in domestic wiring.

Additions must be considered in light of the circuit suppling them.
What protection is provided for the circuit? What size cable is the circuit using? what method is being used to supply the circuit (clipped direct, grouped etc.) is the cable going through insulation?

And you thought electrics were just a matter of bunging a new consumer unit in!
