extractor fan and dimmer switches

After fitting three separate remote timer units (Manrose) for cenrifugal extractor fan in the bathroom, and having them blow up, thought I'd better speak to Manrose technical department who said you can't use the remote timer with a dimmer switch. Something about an capacitor on the circuit board thant can't take the voltage difference when the lights are dimmed.

Given that dimmable lights are a customer requirement, and that an extractor fan is a building regs requirement, is there any way I can make the pair work together. Obviously I could put in a separate fan switch, but I don't want to if I can avoid it.

Would a relay work? Any thoughts?

In my bathrooms, I have a ceiling mounted PIR.

The undimmed output from this triggers the fan timer and is also the supply feed to the dimmer outside the rooms.

Works really well and means you retain PIR controlled ventilation with the lights off. It also means the kids can't leave the lights on all night!
