The other option is to wall mount it, IF I can cut through the current tiling without cracking it and also get power down the back....

I have decided that getting this right is possibly beyond my skills so I have decided to get someone in to do it. I am at least now armed with some good info from here so thank you everyone.

To close this thread off, I ended up getting someone in as I wasn't comfortable getting it all right, but used the recommendations here to get what seems to be the right setup.

An inline fan in the loft with a nice flush vent in the ceiling and a small humidistat which controls the fan. So far working very well.
