I have a 70cm gas hob, do I need a 70cm extractor or can I have a 60cm one and leave space either side so conforms to regulations?

i'm probably 98% certain thinking the 60cm will be fine.

i've put a few kitchens in - all under building notice. the inspector's interest seems to be on the following:

a) there is an extract (and to outside seems a fav)
b) the capacity "extract rate" is >= 350 cub m / hr
c) the height above the hob

Depends on the position of the burners on the hob - we had this issue with our kitchen.

As it turns out (phew) the spacing of the burners on the hob were within the 60cm of the extractor by the required amount (can't remember what it is!) so we were OK with a 60cm extractor.

If it doesn't mess your plans up too much a 70cm extractor would be preferable but if it's going to ruin the design you may be OK with a 60cm depending on the spacing of the burners...
