I just turned the boiler to central heating for the first time this winter and the pump is making a screaming, grinding horrible racket. The pump itself is fairly new having been replaced recently but the system is pretty old. I can't stand the noise so I don't know if the central heating actually works! Any ideas?

may be due to running with lack of water as pump is new and system not been on check pump valves fully open and bleed pump by loosening bleed screw on front of pump (damage may already be done though)
