From what I've read it depends what type of pipe you have as to if its susceptible to clogging up with gunk. The walled type is better apparently? Doesn't let in air In I think...I don't know if I have that...when did that appear? is it a recent invention? House was built around 1990 is it likely to be single walled older type pipe? If it is does it not respond to cleaning agents and flushing as well as copper and walled plastic? Sorry but it's all new to me!
The plastic pipe you will hope to have will say "barrier" in writing on it. I've seen an estate round here with grey pipe like that which wasn't barrier stuff and a lot were repiped for the same issue.
Tony you're suggesting a repipe with plastic again while BG quoted for copper. BG always cost more anyway but at least make a fair comparison.
that doesnt look barriered to me, looks like the original hep20 mains water pipe which was designed to have water running through it rather than stored in it. It basically lets air through the wall which then corrodes the steel rads and blocks solid. Try and find the id printed somewhere on the pipe, but I would guess bg have had the issue on the whole estate and are well aware of the installation fault.
Might be worth speaking to a few of my new neighbours as there are only about 10-15 houses on the cul-de-sac all the same so should have the same piping setup etc from initial build. I can ask if anyone else has had to re-pipe...
