The holes in the drawer were blocked,leaving conditioner and water in the draw,so we have removed the top of the box and cleaned it but now the water is only coming in through the main powder compartment,what have we done wrong?Please help!

Have you cleaned the holes in the underside of the dispenser where the water comes through
They can get blocked at times especially when the drawer itself gets blocked
(water should only come through the conditioner part at certain points in the programme)
Depending on machine they either have a solenoid valve or a motorised linkage from the timer/control to enable water to enter at the right time.
