Farmers, what did they expect?

Tough for farmers at the best of times, the next few years will be hell. And all those that diversified to create holiday lets and office spaces will soon be feeling the pinch thanks to covid.
 
Around us there were plenty of farmhand made 'vote brexit' posters stuck on the side of trailers in their EU subsidised fields alongside local roads...

One must say that they are going to get what they deserve for their ignorance, so sod 'em...

Unfortunately the same fate awaits us all, so double sod 'em!
 
As they always do, it'll be wrapped up in fancy words and rhetoric. However, if a trade deal depends on allowing food imports ...

Farmers can join carmakers, fishermen, bankers, industrialists and young people in wishing somebody hadn't pretended Brexit was a good idea.

Perhaps they should follow Rees-Mogg and move their farms to Ireland.

In 1995 (and this is how I got into the training industry) I started working for a charity that was partly funded by the EU. ESF money was the easiest tit to milk. In fact, at the end of the financial year, the agency set up in Newham to deal with ESF (European Social fund) grants would phone us up saying things like "We need x amount of 'outputs'". Outputs could be qualifications gained, students that went on to FE or those that started work. Bearing in mind we had already been paid to do that type of work, it was a double bubble payment and you could literally bargain with them to get European money for work already done and paid for by others! A couple of £K per output - minimum. We even counted school students. The EU had so much money to spend that badly behaved school kids were finishing the school year with an 'achievement' bonus of up to £600 per school student! Cash in hand too. If we were doing it, how many more were doing the same, all over Europe? One big con the EU, I tell ya!

I posted a link a few days ago about how the UK demolition industry was being investigated for corruption.
Back around the mid to late 90's, I remember a smarmy arris ole from a local (perpetually failing) council, who told me with some glee that he lived out when his council came bottom in a league table, because he knew they'd get a tranche of EU money. Comfortable in that knowledge, he told me that he'd get a new car, book some nice holidays, and basically love life.

Where does the demolition link come in?

He left the council a few years ago - I know not why - and went to a demo firm, which is one of those being investigated.
