Never done it that way, could it work, no reason why not, might look a bit weird tho.
Silicone and weight is my preferred option, silicone all the way around the edge, fit and line up and then a couple of heavy toolboxes (site transformers are great if you have them) to weight it down for an hour till it starts to set.
