Hi, Ive recently been lanscaping the garden and have decided to go with a false turf as opposed to the real stuff! Ive had a local fitter round who has advised me that I need to flaten the ground and cover with sharp sand followed by geotextile barrier then the grass.

I have built a retaining surround from tanalised timber and the heigh internally varies from 1" to 3.5" in depth, I would imagine I dont want to be putting sharp sand down thicker than 1" - 1.5"?

If so what would be a good choice of aggreagte to bulk up the height? Its partially covering a soakaway so a hardcore I assume would not be advisable so maybe ballast?

Thanks in advance for the help!

If it is restrained on all sides i'd fill it with clean stone. Don't really want all the sand in ballast filling up your soakaway.
