Hi, long time reader first time poster. I have had an electrician install a spurred, switched FCU in the loft in preparation for a boiler to be installed. I have been up to check it since I have been back from work and the little red LED light on the box is not lighting up when I switch it on. I have rung the electrician to see why this is the case but cannot get through to him. I am just wondering if the LED is not lighting up as the boiler is not connected yet? If anyone could you let me know that'd be great as I have the plumber coming tomorrow to fit the boiler. Cheers!

Perhaps the FCU is not connected yet. Perhaps it has no fuse in it yet. Perhaps it is because the loft is dark and the neon won't strike in darkness.

Perhaps you are worrying too much. A neon is not required and personally I would have used an FCU without one and saved 60p or whatever every year hence in electricity.

Thanks, I have checked the terminals with a mains checker screwdriver. Theres a current running through the live and neutral terminals. Also, when I touch the neutral terminal the LED lights up. Cheers.

FCUs have neons not LEDs. The neutral should not light up a mains tester. Something wrong, call back the electrician.

Neutral is open circuit, somewhere between the FCU and the consumer unit there is a broken neutral conductor and/or a loose terminal.
