At the bottom of my drive way I have knocked down and dug out an old small wall. I now have an open space between a 5ft wall (over it is another garden) and the corner of the house.

I want to put a 6ft fence in there to secure the back-garden better to get a dog.

However, what I'm not sure of is how to organise the fence at the house side (which will be the gate side of the fence).

Should I dig near the house side and place the post there and cover the space with the fence going past the post to the house ... Or.... Do I secure the last post to the corner siding of the house ?

Another concern and hurdle to pass is that the corner of the house where I'm putting the fence needs the rough-cast fixed but I'd reckon it's quite a big and expensive job. So how's that going to work if I build the fence now and need to fix the roughcast at the end of the year of next year ?

As you can see from the pictures now, I'm looking to enclose that opening with a fence, with the gate side of the fence to the left (house) side of the picture.

As I mentioned in my original post and which you will see from the picture that the cast of the house needs a degree of work which I'm currently saving up for.

Not sure I can work out your description but from left to right I would have

house, post, gate, post, panel, post, wall

You could attach the gate directly to the wall I guess, or to the post if you had the latch on the house side.

Thanks, that's helpful.

I'm guessing your against attaching the gate to the house? - Meaning drilling a post into the house siding then either attaching latch ?

Its your house so it doesn't bother me either way but if you don't have a post it might be easier to fix the render later

No I'm all for your way and in fact that's what I actual had in my head of doing anyway.

house, post, gate, post, panel, post, wall - with the latch on the last post at the house

However, what throw me was my friend who will be helping me has the idea of attaching the post to the house with the latch on that post - I personally wasn't very sure at all and to me the less holes in your siding the better - but because I have seen it a few times that way with fences I wasn't sure, so I was looking for a general opinion.

Thanks anyway again for your replies.
