Is it possible to get retrospective Certificates?

How do small builders manage when buying windows and fitting them?

How do DIYers manage when buying windows and fitting them?

Tony

as Freddie says builders and homeowners use Local building control ....Fensa installers only have six weeks to register an installation, after that date it can't be retro applied ( well in theory.......)
I can't see any other fensa/certass member registering as they would have to honour a warranty for something they did not fit.

So what is the cost using LA ?

What do they actually provide?

How do solicitors respond when selling the property?

Cost depends on your area and there is a sliding scale depending on the value of the works. Go to your local council website and you should be able to find a price list somewhere on their building regs section.

They pretty much just come out and check you have toughened glass in the right areas and that the glass has a low E coating. Then send you a bit of paper saying they are upto regulations.

Its the same as with new builds and extensions, all of these are signed off by LA. Fensa is just a short cut for people who fit lots of windows, They only inspect about 2% of our jobs rather than every one.

What about "private" building inspectors?

Can they do windows as well?

I am doing an extension later and using a private Inspector but could he do the windows on the rest of the house at the same time?

Yes he can. Just speak to him first

I get one thanks for every 16 posts of advice that I give.

I give about one thanks for every 8 or so replies when I am asking for some information.

I'm not really talking about yours or mine thanks count, I'm talking about the act of actually typing out the word thanks within one of your replies when someone has bothered to reply to your questions. Its called common courtesy, though I did use the thanks count to make the point.
