Fernox DS3 alternative?

Hi

Is there an alternative to Fernox DS 3 which I can use to remove scale from my Heat Exchanger in my Halstead Ace High?

Everyone around heere only has the 2kg tubs around £25 and nobody has the 250g tubs which only cost a tenner. I begrudge paying £25 when I only need 50grammes to do the boiler, what a waste of product.

Any ideas?

The active ingredient in DS-3 is sulphamic acid: http://www.plumbase.co.uk/link/1/h004337_28085_t.pdf

I can't speak from first hand experience but I do know some people who have used sulphamic acid for descaling with success.

If there is sludge in your HE in that boiler its most like to metallic oxides for which citric acid is the best cleaner.
