Hi, i am new here. I have been in the trade for 10 years but recently got my own gas safe registration. I mainly install b ut have such interest in fault finding so thought id nick all you clever engineers knowledge.

I have the above boiler not firing up on either ch or hw. The fan and pump runs when a tap is opened and the ignition sparks. No gas is coming through the burner.

So as the fan runs and no gas im thinking the aps right? I took it out and put a resistance multimeter over the terminals. My readings stay on 1.
Does this confirm it is the aps???? as i do not want to mislead the customer. Thanks guys.

Responses and knowledge welcome, no haters please.

Get yourself into the combustion chamber area of the site for registered gas bods where you will find a wealth of knowledge and experience.
It's not the aps by the way!

cheers, i will get in there and copy and paste the same message.

I take it you need to be registered to get in and thats why you did not elaborate on anything. If so, thats cool and could you help me out in there. Thanks

Mickey the site rules dont let us tell you anything about combustion or safety devices but we can tell you in the combustion chamber so a good move to join in there

yeah i've applied for it and just waiting on the confirmation.

Well whilst you are waiting change the venturi before Tony tells you that you need something that you have never heard of

im not at the job now as no where was open to get spares,

the venturi did actually fall off in my hands so i am unsure whether or not this was the problem to start with or an additional one that i created.

whos tony?

Ha Ha you will soon find out but yes mate it is the venturi that is your fault but join the CC its a great source of information

i take it tony is either a mithering idiot who comes out with a load of bull or is the sites automatic server who baffles people with names of things that no one has ever heard. Please excuse my basic questions. Im a decent installer, never had cases off too much apart from my assessment and commisioning. The venturi is the plastic outlets on the fan, connecting the tubes to the aps.
The red connection at the back of the fan was moving around very loosely and popped out. So does the new venturi literally just pop in the fan?

what would the resistance be across the aps. it was like .1. is that correct?

couldnt have put it better myself Mickey , the venturi measures the pressure differential between the positive and negative pressures of the fan and the flue, Ferrolis are a nightmare for these becoming brittle and failing as said earlier join the CC and you have access to loads of really good advice

Cheers pal
Well i signed up for it, entered my licence number and reg number. Its just not verified it yet. Im sure checks on gas safe registers take seconds. I knew what the venturi done, i just didnt know if it would still ignite atall. Hopefully it verifies sooner rather than later. Im a real eage learner for the diagnostics and want to get off install work.

Its literally plastic clips that insert into the fan then connect to the aps. What resistance should i get across the aps. .1 or something.

Well done lads, give yourselves a pat on the back

So for all the diy'ers out there, if your Modena isn't firing up properly go into the combustion chamber and change the venturi.

Look what il do is, once they verify my registration i will delete this post,
Im not a diyer..... ive been plumbing and heating for 10 years, just not on the diagnostic sides. No one else has viewed this as its a new post. As soon as they get off their backsides and verify my gas safe reg i can get in the holy combustion chamber.

Chill

Can someone please tell me the tube set up between aps,fan and gas valve.
Red tube between fan and aps, clear tube between fan and aps.

On the gas valve, the balancing tube....does that just terminate inside the chamber not connecting to anything?

how does the gas valve connect to the fan?
