I bought a new tap, it accepts a 10mm tap tail. I got the tap second-hand but it has never been fitted. The tails with it are copper tube and also there are tails with a plastic speedfit-like system. I want to have a plumber come and fit isolation valves under the sink on the tap feeds. I have bought isolation valves with compression fittings suitable the existing pipework on one end, and flat-face BSP ready for flexible tap tails. (https://www.toolstation.com/flat-faced-male-straight-isolating-valve/p95064).

So I need to buy flexible tails 10mm on one end and 1/2 BSP on the other to attach to an isolating valve with a flat face. It seems such a thing is not sold at Screwfix, Toolstaiton, and plumbers merchants. Why is that so, it seems like a handy thing to use?

It can be got on eBay, from, for example, a seller called Flabbyrabbit. But that name doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in the product. (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266996657736).

The driving force on all this is that I want to be able to remove the taps easily in the future and fit a new sink, without the need for a plumber.

For some reason I don't seem confident enough to do a compression fitting. Probably the reason has to do with the trickiness of cutting and preparing copper tube (or in my case stainless steel).

But, having thought about it carefully if I get a regular isolation valve (not flat-face) the compression fitting I would need to make would be between two steel items (the output side from the isolation valve and the input side of a flexi-hose) so it should be easy to do, right?

Can I guess that the reason no flexi hoses with flat-faced BSP are available is that WRAS won't approve them?

Cheers

I spotted the B&Q one, its a bit long it would be all tangled. The Amazon one I didn't see.

But I would still like to know why they aren't sold in conventional outlets of plumbing equipment.

Must be no demand, or they would. I've fitted literally hundreds and never had the need to buy one separately.

Are you saying that the tap tails that usually come with taps are 1/2 BSP suitable for flat face connectors? If so you would think there would be spares available, just in case the dog chewed one (or whatever).

I checked out a tap from Screwfix (item 5497T). And yes it says that it is supplied with "2 x ½" BSP female flexible braided hoses", and in the PDF fitting instructions the sketch of the hose looks exactly like what I need.

It still seems bonkers that the hoses can't be easily bought. I mean, if your water is off you don't want to be waiting for delivery you want to go and pick up from Screwfix.

If you use flexis you won't need a plumber. But copper tails are a better option, so if you get a plumber make him use those.

The tails with it are copper tube
As Deluks said, use them (without flexis) if at all possible. More trouble to fit, but unlike flexis will last indefinitely, and makes the taps more rigid, often useful with a stainless steel sink.
