fiesta 1.1 starts only when it wants to

Hello. I have a 1.1 L reg fiesta and will only start once running for a while. It has a electric fuel pump and its a single point injection. if the sound of the fuel pump cannot be heard then the car will not start. could it be the coolant sensor, faulty pump or ignition barrel to blame ?

I'd start by looking at the electrics closer to the fuel pump, fuel pump relay is a good place to start. See if this is getting the correct signals and if the fuel pump will start when the relay contact is bridged.
