Hi i have one of these engines: (apologies for size)
its 3 years old, a 1.4, and its started making a strange noise. When I had the bonnet up it sounded like air escaping, like an old car chugging along, a short sharp burst of air, say, 4 times a second at 850rpm, and as i increased the revs it got faster. Any ideas of what it could be?
it was last serviced at 30,000 miles by a Rover dealer in october, its now done 37,500 should i get it serviced now (as the "next service due" stamp says) or wait a bit? I thought service intervals were more commonly 10,000 miles??? (its first service was 14,000 miles

it seems to have stopped after about 5 minutes driving and having the air con on. I will monitor it though, see what happens. It sounds expensive to put right.
