Would I be advised to use a different fillers for exterior stonework and woodwork or is there a product that is suitable for both that can be sanded relatively easy? Also, are the car body fillers that seem to be recommended for exterior work based on epoxy resins or are there exterior fillers that are non epoxy.

I have some rapid setting cement for repairing larger cracks in the stone sills but if there is a filler product for both exterior stone and wood it would be useful for the smaller jobs

Any product recommendation most appreciated.

Hi Jack

I use two part epoxy resin for wood and masonry BUT only if the masonry is smooth. If it has a "sandy" texture I use a powder filler by toupret

Much easier to sand than than epoxy resin filler.

Toupret do make a smooth white exterior powder filler

I last used it about 20 years ago, it got rained on before i could sand it. I had to chisel it off because it became so hard.

The other powder fillers such as tetrion will blow if you sandwhich them between layers of paint- not an issue for epoxy resin filler.

Perhaps the easiest decent exterior filler to sand is the Dulux trade weathershild filler- it is like Red Devil OneTime filler but with tiny bits of "sand". Pretty costly, but very good. It can be used on wood or stonework but shouldn't be used as a fine filler, eg to cover chips in paint.
