I've just bought a house and in the upstairs front bedroom their is a massive hole in the chimney breast.

I want to brick this up so I can decorate.

At some point I will want the chinmey breast lining so I can put a real fire downstairs.

They sell a few different types of blocks, should I be useing a specific type with it being a chimney?

Each fireplace will have it's own flue chamber, so if brick up the upstairs fire opening the lower one won't be affected, it maybe wise to install a ventilation brick to prevent condensation, but other than that just use common bricks or concrete blocks.
