A few months ago, fine white crystalised particles appeared on the chimney breast in the downstairs living room. The same chimney breast upstairs is not suffering from the problem so could this just be that when the downstairs chimney breast was decorated just simple plaster went onto the bricks and no damp proof screed was used or could the chimney be leaking?
