I want to put some laminate down in quite a large room of about 40m2. The current floor covering consists of 25m2 of tiles and 15m2 in one corner with nothing where the room was previously partitioned to create a bedroom. The result is that the tiled area is obviously higher than the non-tiled bit and I need to bring the non-tiled bit up to the right height so that I can put the underlay then the laminate on the top.
How do I do this? The area to fill has a concrete base. The "fill depth" averages at about 8mm so cracking could be an issue. I'm not keen to use self-leveling compound because I'm in France and I'm told it's very expensive here. I've been told to just pour in very wet, quite strong cement. Would this work or would it crack?
Any help on how to best go about doing this would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Joe
