My electrician always fits at least one smoke detector per floor and a heat detector in the kitchen, all interlinked and on a dedicated supply when carrying out a domestic rewire. I was wondering is the heat detector in the kitchen mandatory or just good practice. I ask because the kitchen I am fitting which is in a single story extension, the customer for whatever reason would prefer not to have a detector in the ceiling. The extension is of course subject to building control. Many thanks ,hope you can advise.

not if it has a door seperating it from the main circulation area...according to the green book..
