fire place cover

Is there such a thing to place in front of the fire to stop all the hot air going out up the chimney. We have a baxi fire and use it most nights. However, if we dont use it, the room is cold because all the heat escapes.

Is there an fire place cover i can buy or could i improvise using something?

I think you'll find that's how they are some fires are only 40 percent efficient, but the newer ones can be as much as 89 percent.
I you cover stuff up could be bringing dangerous fumes in to the room.

i dont mean when i am using the fire, just when we are not using it. and this is an open fire

What about plugging the flue with a Chimney draft stopper, a bit, well a lot! like a balloon/pillow.

Or do like my nan used to do and put an old rag up there....just dont forget when you go to relight it...lol
