Hey all, got a very small amount of time off, so got props in and opened fireplace up a bit to accomodate log burner,
at the moment, the opening is now 650mm wide (600mm say by the time it cemented up and tiled/covered) which gives the stove manufacturers minimum clearence of 100mm either side of the stove ok. but reckon it will still look a bit tight.
the pics below, show the throat of the chimney which appears to be stone, with bricks that I belive were added in later for a previous opening working up to the throat. from what you can see does it look like I could remove one set of 1/2 bricks either side? which would leave enough to fill up to lintel and give good overhang 200mm+
