fireplaces render?????

Hi just took our old fireplace out completely, we now have a hole the width of the chimney breast and about five foot high. This will probably remain empty as a decorative feature, but we may put a woodburner in at a later date.
Its bare brick at the mo, what should i use? render?

Dot and dab it with "Fire Check" and skim it......
