I've recently knocked through an upstairs external wall into a new extension and fitted a steel beam.

Will the plasterboard for the ceiling have to be fireproof to protect the steel as there is no mention of this in the building regs.

The kitchen ceiling will have fireproof plasterboard to protect the ground floor steel beam, but what do I do about the soil stack that runs through from upstairs bathroom that is against both beams? Will this also need to be encased in fireproof plasterboard to cover any voids.

Thanks.

i'm not sure on the regs of this either but if unsure why not? it doesn't cost that much more for red board, or just use 2 skins of normal board, that'll give you the same 30 mins of fire resistance.
