I am going to fit TRVs to 6 rads on an existing system with 8 radiators and an ancient boiler, 2 rads w/o TRVs are smallest ones. I wonder if you would answer a couple of questions for me.

The rads and existing valves are v. old (could be up to 35 yrs) I am concerned I might not remove the old valves and be able to replace with new valves due to old ones being seized /corroded. Is corrosion/seizing common in old rads? Is there any way around this other than buying new rads?

I understand I need to fit a bypass valve between the flow and return ? (presumably after the pump before motorised valve? if its not gravity HW / pumped heating which I suspect it is- didnt have chance to look at friends system). Is it simply a matter of connecting a bypass valve between the flow and return (after pump b/f MV) or are there other design considerations.

Cheers
