Just had a downstairs toilet done, with extractor fan, however since it's been finished I noticed the fan was constantly blowing cold air in from outside. Reading on these forums it seems I need to fit a backdraft shutter? Like this?

My questions:

1) is there anything I could do to stop the backdraft without taking the fan out? I've included a pic of the back of the fan leading to outside.

2) If not, then when I take the top off the fan from inside the toilet I'm left with the following pic, if I unscrew the 4 screws will the fan just pop out so I can put the backdraft shutter in and then screw back? I am not that great with DIY and don't want to be messing round with anything too much. I'd ask the builder to come back to fit it but he's not well and it has already become a bit awkward with a few things on this job.

Here's a pic of the whole toilet if it helps:

Or you can fit cowl, or flap vents on the exterior. Not perfect, but do an adequate job:
More expensive versions are available.

Thanks, how would I go about fitting one of those? Would I have to take the existing vent off?

Yep, you should be able to prise off the louvres in your current grill. The frame can then be unscrewed.
Check the size of your existing grill, but I suspect it will be 100mm diameter.
Hopefully the new vent will screw straight into the existing holes.

I would recommend a cowl over louvres if it is in an exposed to the wind location. But looking at the picture of the fan cover fitted to the wall it looks like it has automatic louvres that have stuck in the open position or is it just some sort of grill
