I am fitting a heated towel rail (radiator type) to replace a radiator. I've put it all together and it's on the wall. I've also bent the pipes to connect the new rad to the old pipes . What is the best to do this job? Hire a pipe freezer or block off the Feed and expansion and vent pies? Are there any other possible problems?

Towel rads are on the whole poor quality IMHO.

Bang out all the scale/rust/sand and flush it through thorougly before you fit it.

Getting the threads to seal can be difficult as there are normally only a few threads in the rail.

Use PTFE tape wound in a slight taper to seal threads or use tails fitted with O rings type seals

Avoid overtightening - easy to strip threads.

If you can pressure test with hose before fitting.

Plug feed and vent, drain off on a rad valve to pull a vacuum, use a small tube to suck out water from pipe upstand and solder.
