I have 2 gate valves in the loft (15 and 22). They have both seized. Is it likely that a new one would fit the existing nuts,
as cutting the pipes would be difficult in the position they are in. The house is about 25 to 27 yrs old.
Thanks , Mike

You don't need to remove the nuts and olives fom the pipes, you can safely reuse them, provided they aren't damaged. They will fit the new valves.
To be sure of a good seal, I always smear a small amount of jointing compound (eg Boss White) on the olives before fitting the valve to them.

You might find that the 22 pipe is 3/4 and so best to buy a 3/4 olive just in case. :D

If the new valves don’t fit, use a junior hack saw to cut the olives about ¾ way through which will make them weak enough to crack easily
