fitting a shower

Hi i want to fit a thermostatic shower valve
I got told i could tee into the hot and cold pipes going into taps,I also got told at college this is wrong and that I should tee into cold water storage cistern for cold,
and tee into cylinder for hot..
which is correct if it is the second one then how do you install it if it is a combi..
And how do you actually connect into cold water storage cistern and hot

Depends on what system you are putting the shower on

if its a combi (direct) system then teeing into the hot and cold supplies straight to the shower (with double check & balancing valves, if the shower valve is not combi friendly) will be ok.

If you are dealing with a gravity (hot and cold) you can connect directly to the hot an cold feeds if you are NOT fitting a pump, bare in mind depending on the height of the cold water storage cistern, the delivery may be less than good.

If you are installing a pump or a shower with an integral pump (aqualisa aquastream for example) the you must install seperate cold and cold feeds to it as the is a great risk of sucking air into the system if you connect the feeds to the supplies to the taps.

A surrey or wessex flange on the cylinder for the hot and a seperate boss in the cwsc for the cold.

just to add the cold draw off from the tank should be slightly below the cylinder feed
