One of our radiators has a case fitted around it. I was told you can get TRVs with external thermostats for these - any advice before I go looking for one?

Buy Danfoss or Honeywell, they're called remote sensing TRV's, expect to pay in the region of £50 a valve

A case around your rad will cause the useful heat output to reduce dramatically, meaning you turn the rad up higher, burning more fuel and increasing your heating bills in the process. My ultimate advice would be to save yourself a lot of money and put the case in the skip.

The other problem I have is that my daughter pushes her bed up against one of the rads with a TRV fitted. Presumably this stops it being able to work but I don't think it can harm the bed???
