Can anyone help please.

I have to fit a white night tumble dryer model 382WV this weekend.
My wife is telling me how easy it is so i can do it. (women live in dreamland most the time) Anyway we have put it in the kitchen near the front door, so now all i need to do is fit the vent through the wall.

I've been told that the tool i need is a drill with these large circular drill heads that make a nice neat cut through the brick. is this right ?
Can anyone else advise and prepare for making any big cockups thanks.

Hire a corecutter from your local hire centre make sure you also get a drill with a clutch , or you gonny be wrapping your xmas pressies one handed

For a one-off it would be more economical to drill a ring of holes.

drill from the outside, where the brickwork is on show and the dust is not such a nuisance. Take your time, it's easy. After the pilot has come through you can go round to the inside to finish drilling the inner leaf if you want, but you will be tidying up the plaster anyway. The side you start from will have a neat round hole. the other side will probably spall off.

You need a rigid plastic duct to line the hole. You can mortar it in.

Buy a cowelled vent with a flap (don't get the one like a little venetian blind as they rattle annoyingly in the wind, and the vanes break off)

they come in white, grey or brown. I like brown. It doesn't look dull and dirty.

You can usually get a neat hole on the inside if you virtually stop pressing forward when it gets to the inner plaster layer.

Few people ever use the rigid pipe through the wall. However if you dont you must use a jubilee clip or similar to firmly hold flexible pipe on to the terminal.

I have seen so many where the flex has come off withing the wall and the brickwork gets very damp indeed.

Thanks for the help guys - I will be drilling from the inside as a safe measure due to water pipes rather close in the area. I don't want to knock into them by mistake.

will let you know how it goes - cheers

well try to take the last inch or two from the outside. The is a central pilot drill that will enable you to line it up.

trying to repair broken bricks on the outside of the house is hard work.

that surprises me, I just thought it was the right thing to do.

when I hired a core drill, I did several holes in the day, for extractors, tumble drier, and potential different place for tumble drier. Had to pack some loft insulation into the hole first as my cavity wall insulation is quite loose. I imagine it would fall out if the hole was unlined

I have small hands so was able to poke my arm through the tube and pack mortar round the outside end to save clambering up ladders

Slightly off topic white knight do gas tumble dryers can never understand why more people don`t have them dearer to buy but far quicker and cheaper to run. Just took delivery of my third, previous 2 lasted 7 + years each and that is with being on everyday even in the summer

It has nothing to do with being green!!

I also use my gas tumble drier in summer!

Living alone means that I am assured that my washing will be dry, and more importantly STILL THERE when I return from working !!

Terry i would imagine there is Not much sunlight in antartica even in the summer..
Just realised i am going to have to report myself to the corgi hit squad as i dont have a laundry ticket and i have fitted it.

Pete cuts down on the ironing so saving the planet that way

You can report me at the same time as I have done the the same !!

Last time I did an acs for tumble driers the assessor did not have a clue how they worked!!

He was convinced that POC were not circulated to heat the drum!!

I had to dismantle it to prove my point!!

Still cost me £150 though !!!

ACS and £ORGI are just a license to rob us !!!
