Our hallway is not well lit & i want to put a 350X850mm glass panel above a door to let light in.

The wall is brick & although it's a bungalow the wall goes up into the loft where it tapers off & acts as an intermediary support for a roofing timber.
What's the best way to cut out the hole safely? I presume I will need a flat steel lintel as there is no space for a thicker one without making the window even smaller.

ah ha,yes that would cause a few problems,
any other doors in the area that could be easily changed ?.

You would normally put the lintel in the loft and install a frame up to the ceiling.

Not a flat steel lintel either, as they are not load bearing.

As it's a bungalow I'd be more inclined to add a sun tunnel into the middle of the hall. Probably less effort/cost in this instance as well and they can be very effective.
