I'm fitting a new capillary fire valve. It has 1/4" bsp threads at the inlet and outlet for the oil connections. Do I need to use ptfe tape when screwing in the connectors?

If it's a tapered threaded connection then yes, if it's a union then no you'll need a fibre washer suitable for the system.
That would be correct for water or gas, but for oil the may be different rules.

It's a 10mm x 1/4" coupler but yes the fire valve has tapered threads. So looks like use ptfe tape.

I love heldite used it for years when using it I put some on the threads first then wrap the ptfe on then I put heldite on top of the tape then screw up.Bob

And then spend 2 hours getting it off your fingers. I also use 'belt and braces', but put the PTFE onn dry, then brush the Heldite. It helps to let the Heldite 'cure' a little say 15 mins to get a good seal without losing lots of the sealer when tightening up.
