Fitting gas hob

I've just fitted a new neff gas hob on an island in my kitchen. The hob is in placxe but there is a bit of 'bounce' when tou press down on it. There was a factpry fitted sealent around it which is sponge like and I suppose responsible for this bounce. Does anyone know if this is normal?
