Have a look on the wiki at lighting circuits, turn off the power and work out if it's looped at the switch or looped at the rose. Do you want the switch to control the light or just power it?

ok rjm 2k will have a look , just want to keep it live all the time many thanks .

As stated in previous posts, you will require both live and neutral to complete the circuit.
Normally the neutral is not looped in at the switch but at the ceiling fittings, you may see a blue (new colours) or black (old colours) conductors at the switching point but do not take it that these are neutrals, as they are normally the switch lives going to the load side of the circuit, they should be sleeved and identified as that, but often are not.
You may find a connection block with a pair or multi blue/black conductors in, at the switching plate, this could mean you are in luck, as this would suggest that they are neutrals or you could also have two pole switches, but do some investigation before it gets too confusing.
