Our dormer is almost complete but the builder doesn't do windows. He put me in touch with a local window company and the quote they came back with was incredibly high compared to what we paid to glaze the rest of the house.
I've been looking in to fitting them DIY instead as I would save about 70% and according to what I've read online I don't need FENSA as they will be signed off as part of the final inspection.
I previously swapped a couple of other windows in brick areas without too much difficulty.
What I am trying to work out is where to sit them in the frame and if anything needs doing to the frame first (US guides seem to wrap the frame in tape).
Should the front of the window be in line with the OSB cladding (which will be battened and then rendered), set forward or set slightly back?
Should the wooden opening be protected with something?
Thanks
