Fixing broken antique stone feature

How do you think I should go about this? Seems like it has an iron rod in the middle..

Get a section of threaded rod just big enough to fit inside the steel that is in there and some resin adhesive, available for a standard cartridge gun, and put plenty in the holes and insert the threaded rod into the base and then introduce the two parts with a light bed around the stone joint.
