I've got one of these:

But wondered how it secures to the wall?

I was expecting a much longer threaded bit with a nut/washer so I could fit it to the wall.

Can anyone give me some advice or recommend a better one? I would like one that supply's the water and holds the shower head.

It serews into a fitting already secured in the wall http://www.screwfix.com/p/p803wpcp-...tracking url&gclid=CP3D59_b0dICFYwQ0wod_6oJvw

It looks like a pound shop item,i dont like the plastic thread (call me old fashioned) This is a decent make of shower outlet/holder elbow http://www.tapsempire.co.uk/grohe-relexa-shower-outlet-elbow-28679-p-11219.html

Example of similar Part with a longer thread http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Modern-Ch...821571?hash=item489190a703:g:ZR0AAOSw0UdXtsg-

Your part has a angle/swivel to hold the shower hand set in position, the above dont have that option,so you need to get a curved shower handset to angle the spray downwards.
Your part can be fitted,it will just take some planning and experience.

good luck.

Thanks very much for the reply.

It came with a shower valve from Better Bathrooms and does seem very pound shop.

This one is very similar to the Grohe one you linked so I'll give it a try. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132122839143

Looks to be metal and have a decent length of thread on the back.

Cheers :)
