Hi folks

Just building some floor-to-ceiling wardrobes using 18mm MDF for the sides, shelves, base and top. Am affixing to the wall for security. Two questions...

1. What's an appropriate MDF thickness for the back panels of the wardrobes?

2. Is there a particular size batten to use to affix to the walls, or can I use any bit of wood?

Cheers in advance!

Backs can be 8 or 12mm MDF. If that thin and in a groove or rebates I'd recommend putting a cross brace behind them every 600mm or so to stop them being popped out should the wardrobe overloaded (as happens). Suitable batten? 2 x 1 in PSE softwood. Just make sure it is screwed into the studs

Doesn’t have to have a back , if you are on a tight budget you can use 50mm strips of 18mm Mdf for baton.
